I am a Neufeld Parent Consultant and a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist® with the Grief Recovery Institute®.
As a Neufeld Parent Consultant, I work exclusively with the attachment-based developmental approach created by Dr. Gordon Neufeld (see ‘Therapies’ for information about him).
I help parents feel more confident handling the challenges of parenting. Some challenges are common everyday issues, others are signs of deeper trouble, but they all have this in common: they improve when the relationship of the child to the parent is strengthened and deepened.
This approach does not use a medical ‘disorder’ model; rather, it looks at the child in the context of relationship with parents primarily, and other significant adults. Problems are often the result of something awry in the child’s relationship with adults; the aim of my work with parents is to bring the relationship back into alignment. This is similar to naturopathic medicine, which looks for and treats causes, rather than suppressing symptoms.
A wide range of difficulties can be addressed using this approach, with children of all ages. Some straightforward issues can be resolved in one or two visits. Other deeper or longer-standing problems may take more time. I work with parents, not children. The parents go home and apply their insights to daily life with their child(ren).

Prior to my work as a Neufeld Parent Consultant and Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, I worked at Toronto’s Waldorf Academy as a handwork teacher, kindergarten assistant, administrator, and, more recently leading the Parent & Tot program. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design, a Bachelor of Education, and am a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. I have been a stained glass artist, public school supply teacher, and worked in home renovation. None of this was as satisfying or as joyful as the work I am doing now.

I regularly offer Neufeld parenting courses, and periodically host Dr. Neufeld in Toronto.
